Start date: Jun 1, 2014,
End date: May 31, 2015
PROJECT
FINISHED
Context/background of project:
- Focus on European Inspiring Science Education through Green Educational Resources and Tools.
- Focus on EU citizenship and awareness
- Increase the development of curricular links in more curriculum areas of the school
- Explore a more inclusive approach to the European/global dimension using ICT
- Increase the awareness of the European/global dimension to staff, students and the wider community across the whole school.
- Develop new staff teaching methods and tools with a special focus to green educational resources and ideas.
Objectives of your project:
- Strengthen ties with other EU schools through the use of class blogs and virtual classroom software
- Teachers will use ICT and Green Educational Resources and Tools in the classroom with more confidence
- Collaboration between students of all subjects across the EU. At the moment, it is specific to students of European Studies and those proficient in a foreign language.
Number and profile of participants:
- Two teachers
- John Kirk and Michael Friel
- Both teachers are passionate about green activities and inspiring students to achieve higher attainments but they lack the resources and knowledge to use their existing skills within a wider EU framework. Teachers with prior experiences of inspiring learning through green activities were chosen so that they could return to the school (and also work with the other 20 schools in our organisation) and share their new skills with other teachers.
Description of activities:
- Learn how to develop our school into a innovative and open learning community, with improved engagement of learners, collection and diffusion of green educational resources and design of educational scenarios.
- Collaborative projects between partnered-schools
- Immersion in culture of another EU country
Methodology to be used in carrying out the project:
- Google Drive or Dropbox to share documents
- Monitored social media to allow students to communicate
- Online conferencing through Skype and Elluminate
A short description of the results and impact envisaged and the potential longer term benefits:
- Increased knowledge of a wide range of EU cultures, languages and daily life in schools
- Ability to develop green education resources and tools that can be shared online
- Further engagement with the 20 other schools in our own organisation
- Increase in teacher confidence using green education resources and tools in the classroom
- Long term: School exchanges involving students with other EU countries
