European Foreign Policy in the 21st Century
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2019 PROJECT  FINISHED

The course European Foreign Policy in the 21st Century challenges students in their understandings and stereotypes of Europe and the European Union and its role, identity and place in the world. The EU is the world's wealthiest region, biggest development aid actor and NZ's 3rd largest trading partner. Yet, the EU is often misunderstood in NZ, requiring a unique and multi-faceted teaching approach. The course is led by two early career lecturers with PhDs in the field of European foreign policy, Dr Wenwen Shen from Korea University and Dr Serena Kelly from the National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE): At the end of this course students will display a good understanding of the structure and function of European Union foreign policy, its key challenges and its role and impact in the world, particularly in the Asia-Pacific. This course is aimed at students from Australasia and further afield. This innovative course on EU foreign policy will encourage future growth and sustainability, promoting the discipline as a viable pathway, and raising the visibility of the EU studies nationally.
