The project “Europe is Motivation” is specifically designed to be put in practice at the bilingual primary school CEIP El Álamo. This school is located in the town of El Álamo, in the south of the Community of Madrid. Heterogeneity, multiculturalism and diversity are the identifying characteristics of this school, which has three classes per grade level. It has a background in bilingualism and participates in European programs. Based on an analysis of the needs of the school, a lack of motivation towards the teaching-learning process has been identified on a general level, as well as a growing lack of interest from the families with regard to their children’s academic performance. Therefore we consider it necessary to receive training which will help put new ideas and initiatives, provided by intercultural and international experiences through this program, into practice in the classroom.
To bring this project to fruition we have proposed a total of six international exchanges that would impact a selection of teachers, specialists as well as non-English specialists, preferably from different cycles and stages to guarantee the vertical cohesion of the
project and its implementation in the school.
We have proposed activities to be completed before, during and after each of the exchanges. These consist of advance preparation activities and logistical organisation as well as the execution of the project as put in practice by the teaching staff and students.
In terms of the methodology, we can say that it is an active and participatory methodology that will demand the interest of the candidates to put it into practice.
Regarding the short term results, we expect an improvement in the linguistic skills of the participants which will in turn result in an improvement of the quality of instruction in the school and increase the students’ motivation.
In the intermediate term, not only linguistic abilities but also all the skills related to organisation and team work will improve.
In the long term we aim to alleviate the present needs of the school by involving all the educational agents and establish connections on the European level that allow us to provide the school with a broader educational dimension.
In conclusion, we believe it would be very positive for the school and all the members of the educational community to join the Erasmus+ Program as a means to acquire new competencies, improve the quality of education to avoid academic failure, early school drop-outs and social exclusion, and allow us to see the future through the experience gained by encouraging the consciences of the European citizenship.
