BACKGROUNDIn step with the development in society, the background of pupils of the GSG has become more and more international over the recent years. The number of refugees currently entering the country will further strengthen this development in the coming years.Instead of simply standing by and observing the changes, we would like to enter on the path towards a school open to Europe and the world, a school that propagates the on-going implementation of intercultural skills in our daily school routine. For our A-level graduates to be successful in the German and European labour/job market, vocational skills alone won’t be enough in the future. Intercultural skills are going to be more and more important as a stepping stone into a successful career.Three to five teachers should be trained in the areas of project management and intercultural skills by attending special courses. It seems that we would profit most by courses with an international audience. We are looking forward to getting into contact with teachers from other schools all over Europe, hoping that those courses will lead to the establishing of international and intercultural partnerships, projects and exchanges. Platforms like e-twinning should be tested and used more often in the future.AIMSBy strengthening the skills in the area of intercultural project management we would like to enable individual teachers to establish a successfully operating ERASMUS-group at our school. This group should coordinate and broaden the range of courses for acquiring intercultural skills offered inside and outside our school. Participants of those courses are supposed to act as multiplying factors by passing on their knowledge to the rest of the teaching body.Our ultimate aim is to pass on intercultural skills to our pupils. Skills supposed to be useful to them in their future career and their life in society in general.NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTSWe estimate three to four teachers of the GSG participating in the ERASMUS-project. The participants are open-minded and interested in meeting people from other cultures. Their foreign language skills will enable them to participate at international conferences and to communicate with people from other countries. The enthusiasm for the European idea is such that they will motivate their colleagues to integrate intercultural projects more often in their curriculums.DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIESWe plan to participate at international courses with the focus on project management and intercultural skills.Following up those courses, an ERASMUS-group will be established at our school by the participants.PROCESS OF ESTABLISHING PROJECTBy participating at international courses teachers will acquire intercultural skills that should help them dealing with pupils (and their parents) who have a migratory background.By enlarging our competence in project management we expect a rise in courses aimed at intercultural skills for our pupil body. Teachers trained in intercultural skills are supposed to use their knowledge to further the idea of a ‘European education’ at our school. They should also inspire and help other teachers to plan and manage intercultural projects.SHORT DESCRIPTION OF AIMS AND RESULTS AS WELL AS LONG-LASTING EFFECTSParticipation at European educational courses will enhance motivation and competence in planning and managing international projects. The teachers trained in intercultural skills should inspire their colleagues and help to broaden the basis for intercultural communication and skills at our school.Our ultimate aim is to integrate intercultural learning more fully in the daily routine of our school. We attempt to give our pupils more often the chance to cooperate with foreign partner schools. By using a broad range of diversified projects (exchanges, e-twinning-projects etc.) intercultural skills will be passed on along with foreign language skills. Pupils will hopefully benefit from those skills in their later career and social life, and will find that new possibilities on an international labour market are open to them.
