The EU Environmental Policies & Law (POLLEN) Module will be a novel and intensive interdisciplinary programme that aims to foster both new teaching and the dissemination of excellence in academic research on EU environmental governance. It will cover the following areas: (i) EU Environmental Law and EU in Multilateral Negotiations; (ii) EU Climate Change and Energy Governance; (iii) EU Waste Management, Chemicals and Nanotechnologies; (iv) Biodiversity, Food and Trade. Taught by experts from six leading Belgian universities and several European organisations, the Module is aimed at Master and PhD students and practitioners in Law, Political Science, International and European Studies, but also in other environment-related areas (e.g. Life Sciences). The POLLEN Module will stand at the crossroads of a range of pedagogical approaches that work in synergy and complementarity to provide innovative, high-quality education. It consists of:- An Active Learning Forum which provides a platform where participants will share with others the knowledge they have acquired and enable innovative collaboration with respect to traditional learning settings.- One introductory lecture, nine lectures (providing key analytical tools to apprehend European environmental studies) and nine conferences-debates (offering an interactive reflection between practitioners and participants).- A training session, participants’ fast-paced presentations (My POLLEN Talks) and the submission of a policy brief by each participant. The Module will also promote research excellence through:- Two POLLEN workshops that will tackle a key cross-disciplinary research issue in European environmental studies. The valorisation of the results of each workshop will take the shape of a report and a co-authored opinion piece and a special issue in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.- A specialised scholarly handbook to be published at the end of the 3-yr grant contract.- Three Midis de l’Europe conferences.
