The project aims at the development of the long term water supply strategy of Érmellék region in the area of the cross-border water body. The bottleneck of the strategy is the low level of information on the groundwater reserves in the region. The existing waterworks suffer from inadequate water quality, obsolete water supply structures and machinery, lack of supply in several settlements. The on-going investments solve some of the acute problems, but long term strategy is required with focus on the sustainable use of the water reserves available. The local and the cross-border effects of the water abstractions are surveyed on the common water body. A joint cross-border monitoring system is developed, which helps to protect the water resources. Detailed cross-border hydrodynamic model will be built on 3 RO and 2 HU strategic water resources. With the help of these tools we develop monitoring system with the utilisation of the existing wells (with their rehabilitation where it is necessary), and delineate the protective zones of the affected water resources. Along the project we purchase and install the automatic water level meters (20 RO, 10 HU). The general objective of the project is the protection of the human health, environment, increase the quality of life for the people living in the region, in harmony with the relevant EU directives Target groups: population - 96 thousand people at both side; water-users (industrial, institutional, etc.); water and environmental protection organizations; county and local governments (there are 55 wells in the project area The main specific activities of the project are: data collection for the GIS database; field surveys; hydrodynamic modelling (Ro 3 pcs, Hu 3 pcs); installation of the monitoring system; strategy realization (Ro 1pc), securing plan of wellheads (Ro 3 pcs, Hu 2 pcs), final documentation realization (Hu 1pc). Expected Results: Main results: a joint cross-border monitoring system, which helps to protect the water resources; detailed cross-border hydrodynamic model built on 3 RO and 2 HU strategic water resources; automatic water level meters (20 RO, 10 HU); publications, workshops, webpage.
