FINISHED
Lahti City Youth Services have been hosting several volunteers over the years and consider that hosting volunteers offers good possibilities to enchance the multicultural aspect of Lahti and also consider it as an anti-discrimination activity. The cornerstones of the hosting unit Multi-Culti are participation and cultural diveristy, the acitvities at the multicultural center are based on acitve citizenship and volunteers offering free time activities for the citizents in Lahti.
In this project we hosted one volunteer, Patricia from Madrid, Spain. A young girl with not so much experience within the volunteer work field but eager to learn and do. During the project one of the biggest changes was the improvment in her initiative taking.
The original planned acitivities were changed to better suit our volunteer, so we could offer her an positive experience. She worked alongside with the youht workers one evening of the week at the youth space in the shopping center, her tasks were to keep the statisticts of the youngsters up to date and also do handicrafts with them. At Multi-Culti she planned and implemented actitivies for the international young adults group together with local volunteers. Sje also participated as an helping assistant in theme-events for vocational school students, but without implementing any acitivites on her own.
She was very motivated to learn Finnish and her Finnish skills improved a lot during the activities.
The main focus of the project were changed to have more focus on the Youth Pass and the lifelong learning prosess
