Entrepreneurship Training and Coaching for Univers..
Entrepreneurship Training and Coaching for University Spin-Offs
Start date: Oct 1, 2011,
Several studies show that university spin-offs (USOs) do not grow. Knowing the importance of USOs for a competitive knowledge based Economy it becomes critical to find ways to improve their growth through the development of Key Entrepreneurial Skills (KES). This is the main reason for our project SPIN-UP. The project aims at preparing a comprehensive and effective Entrepreneurship Training and Coaching program for USOs to enable their growth and to support universities integrating entrepreneurial learning into their curricula. SPIN-UP will be run in a combined effort between HEI (research centres and incubators) and consulting and leadership development firms in Portugal and Netherlands. The deliverables of SPIN-UP include:• Research on existing entrepreneurial skills in the USOs of the participating universities• Complete Entrepreneurship Training and Coaching Program (in EN, PT, NL and FI)• Pilot Training and Coaching Program with a selected group of USOs• Website, brochures, posters and dissemination sessions (in EN, PT, NL and FI)• Workshops with HEI to reflect on how the program can be incorporated within the education and incubating programs• Guidelines for results' transfer to HEI• Final Report – activities, results and evaluation of the projectThe impact of this project is multi-fold and can generate many effects across different HE beyond the initial consortium as we expect to encourage other HE to exploit the results of our project. The impact can be summarised as:• Academic researchers will have a better understanding of the impact of KES on the growth of USO• HEI and their incubators will be in a better position to address the growth challenges of USO by offering new solutions for the development of KES• Academic entrepreneurs will be better prepared to address growth challenges through increased self-awareness and increased KES• Ultimately, USO will tend to grow more and to create new jobs in innovative areas
