Enhanced three-level competency-based curricula in Applied Marine Science
Start date: Oct 15, 2011,

The overall wider objective, to which the project will contribute, is to continue the reform of the system of higher education in the area of Applied Marine Science (AMS) in Russian Federation to comply with Bologna Declaration and according to the demands of Strategic Framework for European Cooperation in Education and Training (ET 2020), aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of educational process. The significance of the reorganization of the educational process in the AMC is related to the increasing relevance of environmental issues and ecology that are directly reflected in Russian priorities of TEMPUS programm. Global environmental change and economic development of society are closely related to each other. Negative changes in ecosystem caused by human activity can lead to serious consequences for future generations. Only competently trained professionals, who understand the relationship between theoretical and practical multidiscipline problems of AMS can find the correct and adequate solution of these problems. Training of such specialists should be based on the latest achievements obtained in world practice. To address this, we propose: - a new three cycle curricula and enhanced syllabi in AMS based on ECTS;- eMaris Network and collaboration platform as learning and academic environment for all cycle students, university staff and potential stakeholders;- innovative teaching materials for :- applied marine ecology;- fisheries management and assessment; -modelling of the environment;- operational forecasting modelling; including textbooks, mobile lectures, e-&m-learning modules ; - the structured doctoral programms based on the eScience approach; a lectures course on new methodology for the third cycle;- implementation of developed competency-based three cycle curricula approach based on modern learning technologies. The project includes teachers re-training and short mobility periods for staff and students.
