PROJECT
FINISHED
Our school 10Solrød teaches 16 year old students for one year in addition to the public school before they choose their youth education. We experience various challenges in teaching and securing our students. Challenges such as students with various learning disabilities and students risking early school leaving. Part of our development plan is to give all of our English teachers a common base for developing new and improved methodology within language teaching. We need new teaching methods and approaches to teaching and learning in general.
The goal is to become more creative professionals designing lessons and materials that are motivating, challenging and effective for our students, who have very different needs. We also need an upgrade on British life and culture to strengthen our competences. Furthermore we want to share these new English teaching strategies with our colleagues in our network.
We would like to send our 6 English teachers to Pilgrims English Language Courses in Kent. Four of the teachers will participate in the course "Creative Methodology for the classroom" and the last two will participate in "British Life and Culture". Thereby we can achive a common knowledge of both courses. Thereafter we will pratice our new skills in connection with teaching our students and finally invite our English network to participate in a workshop at our school, where we intend to invite a professor from Pilgrims.
We have selected all of our 6 English teachers, because an upgrading of the English Teaching is a focus point in the development plan of our organisation. All of the participants have a teaching eduation and have all been teaching for about 12 years in average.
We will use feedback and supervision in connection with our English teaching lessons in general, and also integrate the creative methodology within our teams and other subjects. The English teachers will work together in creating new teaching materials and curriculum based on the acquired competences. By sending all the teachers to participate in these courses, we will gain a more qualified cooperation and a common understanding of the approaches towards our very different students in the second language learning lessons. Integrating these competences and experiences in our own teaching enables us to teach other teachers in our network.
In obtaining these new methods and common knowledge the participants will be able to optimize their teaching of our students, the main target group of this project. The school will hopefully benefit from this project by the improved English teaching activities and reduce the number of early-school-leaving students. A second target group is other schools and their English teachers, who will benefit from the following course and sharing of knowledge.
(We have added examples of course contracts - we could not add all six).
