Enabling and empowering young adult migrants to fully participate in society

The proposed Learning Partnership, AXIA, focuses on enhancing the support for young adult migrants in order to enable and empower them to effectively participate in society. The partnership aims to identify approaches to reducing levels of discrimination against young adult migrants, give them a voice so that they are able to communicate their needs and wishes, and improve services and practices to enable young migrant adults to be more successfully included in society and the job market. The partnership will share information about different approaches to enabling fuller participation, will work with groups of young adult migrants to identify and consider the implications of their expectation and needs, showcase effective practice among partners, and produce success criteria for effective support for young migrants. The partnership will focus on a number of key approaches and themes including career mentoring, work shadowing, work experience, support networks and counselling services, and raising awareness among key agencies. In addition, the partnership will carry out interviews with young adult migrants in order to identify their needs and expectations and consider the implications of these for practice. Each of the scheduled partnership meetings will focus on a key approach or theme. The partnership will develop a number of products; these will include a tool for identifying the expectations and needs of young adult migrants, a document portraying case studies of young adult migrants in the different countries, and a set of key success criteria.
