PROJECT
FINISHED
The youth exchange took place from 21 July to 2 August 2014, in Saint Savinien , Charente Maritime - Poitou-Charentes, western France.
This exchange aimed to raise a group of young teenagers to environmental concerns in order to have responsible consumption.
Only two partner organizations (Belgium and Greece) have participated to the project, unlike the four partners originally planned.
This project was carried out by 16 European teenagers, aged 13 to 17 years, including 7 French, 6 Belgian and 3 Greek. Each group had one leader and all young people were supervised by two French trainers and one technical leader.
The project proposed, to teenagers group, to learn how to build their own eco-camp that served to the group as an educational support and living place during those 2 weeks. The goal was to raise awareness of the environment and allow them to become these young eco-citizens of tomorrow. They were able to raise awareness of issues related to the environment, the consequence of their actions and return to a more simple and natural way of life.
However, they have assessed priorities to build constructions in order to allow them to do their daily life in the camp. For this, the young people were supervised throughout the project to carry out the actions and create links with the local population.
This project was an opportunity to realize several workshops and activities:
- Construction of living space (solar showers, dry toilets, barracks life)
- Brainstorming Workshop on environmental issues
- Workshop on personal care products: manufacturing ecological hygienic products (soap, detergent, toothpaste ...)
- Meetings with local stakeholders (natural soap producer, carpenter, local associations ...)
- Workshop on Timber Management: forest, timber ...
- Meeting with local teenagers
- Sporting and cultural activities
- Discovery of the local area and the region
By the concrete construction of eco-camp, we wanted to create an awareness of environmental issues among young people and until European level. During this exchange, the young Europeans were able to share their experiences, learn to live together and adopt an eco-citizen behaviour.
We wanted to raise awareness and introduce them to a closer life to nature, being convinced that this will impact on the way they consume and they will pay more attention to the world around them.
