Estonian Massage and Therapy School (EMTS) with the legal name M.I. Massaažikool OÜ is a private vocational school, which gives vocational education certificate to massage therapists and physiotherapy assistants (PTA-s) on the fifth level, and on the basis of further curriculum pet-, sports-, children-, massage- and spa therapists and massage therapist training. Since the autumn of 2016 we receive students with special educational need (dysgraphia, dyslexia, hearing problems). As of 1.01.2016 there are 161 students and 29 teachers. The international cooperation with foreign partners started in 2012, when students had practice abroad in a spa in Switzerland, and has developed further on every year. Since 2013 we have organised mobilities within the framework of life-long learning program supported by Archimedes Foundation and carried out successful cooperation with partners in different European countries. In 2013 we organised 5 mobilities for 10 teachers of EMTS into 5 European countries within the framework of Leonardo da Vinci program and one mobility for 2 teachers to Iceland within the Nordplus Adult program. In 2014 we received a grant from Archimedes Foundation for a 2-year Erasmus+ mobility project, during which 14 students went to 7 countries and 6 employees to two countries. The 2-year project “Mobility in Europe of M.I. Massaažikool ” is in progress during which 12 students are going to five European countries. Today we have partners and practice bases in Malta, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Cyprus, Greece, the UK and Iceland. The goals of the current project "EMTS’s Mobilities in Europe" are based on the strategy of the school’s development plan, which foresees among other things the development of students’ and teachers’ international mobilities, cooperation networks and the development of the curriculum and guaranteed flexible learning possibilities. The participation in the project enables to improve the learning process in EMTS and the implementation of the ECVET system used all over Europe. Via the expansion of international cooperation we support the principles of students’ and teachers’ life-long learning and develop the acquisition of professional skills. We want to find innovative opportunities of carrying out practice and develop cooperation with the current foreign partners. The achievement of the project goals and the acquisition of new skills enhance the sustainability of the school. During the project from 2016-2018 we intend to send 13 massage/spa therapy students, 3 students with special educational needs, 8 PTA/massage students to mobilities in Malta, Spain, Italy, Portugal and the UK. We are planning to send 2 EMTS teachers to teach in Malta.EMTS student mobilities last 14 or 30 days. Massage and spa therapy students are going to stay in the institution providing massage service and treatments, become familiar with the efficiency, local standards, the administration of the structure unit pursuant to the service and together with the team while working as a massage or spa therapist. The PTA-s are going to stay in the rehabilitation institution and help the physiotherapists to assist rehabilitation procedures.Teachers’ mobility lasts for 1 week. Our 2 teachers are going to teach Thai orthopaedic massage, kinesiology and manual muscle testing at partner’s school in Malta. The students obtain experience by working in a multi-cultural environment; develop their professional competencies and self-discipline, punctuality in the performance of their work assignments, foreign language skills, analytical skills and tolerance. The obtained skills enable the students to acquire learning outcomes on the international level, (via the implementation of ECVET system) and enjoy the advantages when competing at the international job market. The EMTS teachers improve their professional skills via teaching in English and working within an international environment in order to ensure the sustainability, develop as a person, become more self-confident, more motivated and tolerant. As project result the obtained experience, knowledge, skills and the new ideas are implemented in practice and in the educational process of teaching the massage/spa therapy students and PTA-s. Also the curriculum of massage therapy and teaching process for students with special educational needs are developed. Conditions are created for PTA-s to complete the practice abroad, which broadens the learner’s general knowledge in regard to the possibilities, the content and the quality of the physiotherapy service. The project results enhance further cooperation between different massage schools, spa and rehabilitation centres on international level. The teachers exchange from different schools is going to be more active. The qualification of the massage and PTA-s improves and increases their competitiveness at the job market in Estonia and abroad.
