The project “emPOWERed by and thru Europe” is based on the current needs of the LAG training staff which either mainly works with migrants and people with low literacy or increasingly deals with Education for Sustainable Development. For the LAG and their training staff it is essential to qualify current educational activities which have been designed to enhance educationally disadvantaged people and to qualify the labour integration of migrants as well as improving on sustainable development through the appropriate training of educational staff. This will be achieved through corresponding trainings with experienced partners. It is essential to acquire additional innovative skills, attractive and suitable learning methods for working with the mentioned target groups in order to establish sustainable educational activities and high importance for the conception of new educational projects.
Based on these necessities the project was designed by the LAG in cooperation with its educational staff. The project´s intention was to provide transnational training opportunities for adult education trainers working with the relevant target groups and the relevant subjects. The project activities have been selected by relevance and innovation and included 3 mobility activities:
Activity 1: “Adventure-Energy Week”; with „energie:autark Kötschach-Mauthen“ in Carinthia. This Train the Trainers workshop was about providing contents and teaching methods regarding the topic renewable energy and environmental sustainability. It was organized for coordinators of our projects of ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) and Changing World. These contents and tools are appealing, low-threshold and they are related to the target group´s focus on renewable energy, economic sustainability and rural development space.
Activity 2: “Job-related languages for immigrants”; with “C3L Centre for Life Long Learning”; in Tyresö
During the workshop the successful program as well as concepts, methods and teaching materials for the professions geriatric nurse and craftsman were presented to the participants. They got to know how to implement specific job related language teaching methods in their educational work as well as how to handle an appropriate placement of job seeking migrants in job-related internships. The results of the workshop were included in the design of the LAG project, LAG-training events to support the language and social integration of refugees.
Activity 3: Political basic education with “uniT” in Vienna. During the workshop the participants were taught how political education by artistic-creative methods can be conducted in the context of basic education. The setting included a series of exercises, methods reflections and substantive inputs, all of which are aligned with the mediation of political education on issues such as political participation, EU, social inequality, gender and intercultural learning as part of basic education programs with different target groups. The workshop participants learned very specific suggestions, exercises, examples of best practice and methods that they can bring to their education with fugitives directly to establish political base training in accessible way for the basic adult education.
The trainings were not just focusing on the presentation of new appropriate methods, unconventional training activities and innovative approaches, yet it emphasizes the cross-cultural experience, the exchange of information about the structures of extracurricular adult education among colleagues of political-cultural education and the encounter with students from the partner organizations. The clear objective to apply the new skills and information within the current educational work realized on local and regional scope with the relevant target groups as well as to conceptualize new projects could be achieved. It is our medium-term goal to reach a sustainable implementation of the training contents in the regular work of the LAG and to dsitribute and include the information in our networks and the respective working groups.
