BackgroundThere is a growing interest in mindfulness as a way of living, with increasing scientific evidence of its value for optimal health and well-being, and with mindfulness being increasingly integrated into school education in particularly in the UK. The evidence in particular points at the increased resilience and the ability to better cope with stress, difficult moments and relations. Educationalists agree on the fact that relationship needs to be nurtured long before the moment of crisis, both from the parents’ side and the children side. LIMINA and CPP are organizations working in the field of adult education and they have already cooperated in European and others local projects on parents’ education. Staff belonging to both organisations share long Meditation and Mindfulness practices, also applied to other fields of work, other than the work with kids and parents. LIMINA and CPP in their work with parents are constantly noticing that there is an increasing need to offer guided opportunity for parents to meet in a non-judgemental space for sharing and practicing ways to cultivate more serene relationship in the family, where the pressure from different sources are converging (work, society, school and family itself).Research, such as the UK’s Mindful Nation Report (October 2015) suggests that now is time for cultivating greater mindfulness, in particular in parenting and in family life as it is often left out of the educational arena yet is a very cost-effective way of improving life attainment, particularly in education and parenting.Aims & ObjectivesThe project aims at exchanging practices in the field of parenting, parents' education and mindfulness for children and schools, at learning from each partner’s experiences and practices, at exploring the contact points for laying the foundation and verifying the feasibility for the creation of a Mindfulness course for Parents based on the different approaches of the partners involved. ParticipantsThere are 4 partner participants - each partner has a specific objective based on the individual starting point, previous experiences and motivation for implementing the project, namely:• CPP has an extended experience in working with parents, acquired trough their project “Scuola Genitori” based on a maieutic approach. CPP objective is to investigate how Mindfulness can become one integrated elements of their “Scuola Genitori” (Parents’ School). • LIMINA has an extensive experience in facilitating and supporting education processes for adults in organisations/schools, learning events and conferences; their staff is trained in “The way of Council” an approach to support listening and speaking from the heart, in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and .b (Mindfulness in Schools). LIMINA objective is to translate into German some of the resources available from the partners and to link them with “Eltern.Sein” the current work they are doing with parents.• L’Ydille Lang has experience in conceptualising and training educational staff in mindfulness for children and in working in kindergarden with yoga, as well as with the Eline Snel method and MBSR. L’Ydille Lang objective is to enlarge their field of work, and to make it adequate to families and parents'educators.• PADMA has a compassion focused approach to delivering support to those recovering from mental health issues and follows the Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) approach in delivering mindfulness to carers, parents and teachers. PADMA has experience of hosting a successful week long residential Mindfulness training programme for 20 participants from across the EU and seeks to build on their Mindfulness experiences to develop their Plymouth Recovery College further.Methodology, results and impactPartners will:1. Hold project meetings, hosted on a rotation basis by each partner, for exchanging good practices currently in use by the partners.2. Attend learning/training events in each country, sometimes more structured like for the .b Mindfulness in School in the UK, Mindful Parenting by Jon Kabat-Zinn in Austria and some more informal during project meetings.3. Practice Mindfulness with colleagues at international level and with parents at local level4. Explore the feasibility and laying the foundations of developing a specific curriculum on Mindfulness for parents, starting from the conclusions of the project experiencesThe final result of the project will be an EMP:PATH Stories Book featuring the impact of the activities undertaken within the framework of the project, covering 30 local workshops and involving 750 parent/teacher attendees, with dissemination involvement from 20 other stakeholders.Long Term:The project is an exploration of best practice with an intended follow-up for actual curriculum development for a Mindfulness Parenting Training Programme, as a development of innovation, post project completion.
