Effective School Management in EU Dimension
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In a school, education services, student personal services, support services etc. compose school management. School management is carried out chiefly by school headmaster and school headmaster assistants. The duty of school management is to keep alive the school according its objectives. The expected basic function from school headmaster is to reconcile expectations of people (staff and students) and groups out of school and to make real the school's objectives while directing the school. However, school management teams can face some problems while they are doing their duties. Some of the problems are related to students, teachers, school building and office stock, social, cultural, politic and economic situation of the school’s region, school’s culture and climate, even to the management skills that school management teams have. According to some research, there are student based problems such as absenteeism, student failure, discipline problems, aggression, theft, bringing crime tools in schools, etc. In addition, there are some teacher based problems such as: teacher’s personal problems, communication problems between teachers and school management teams, teacher’s professional problems. There are also some school climate problems such as: differentiation between students and teachers with regard to sex, violence towards students by teachers and school management teams and lack of communication between schools and families. Problems at school can also result from insufficient management skills of school management teams, since it is commonly accepted that it is up to school management teams' to use human resources effectively and productive. Therefore, Karaman Provincial National Education of Directorate and the other participant organizations are planning to study on effective school management practices and share them within the partnership. Moreover, we intend to find new methods on effective school management. This project will be carried out by partners from Turkey, Romania, Spain and Italy. So we will be able to find out the problems from different education systems. This will help us to meet at a joint point to find solutions to those problems. In the project process, partners will expose new and different methods of effective school management. We believe that even the little problems at schools can cause great consequences. That's why, we aim to maintain the problems at the minimum level and to reduce the number of problems with which schools and school management teams confront. Having the problems at minimum level will reflect positively on the school climate. For instance, there will be a decrease in absenteeism, the motivation of teachers will increase, parents' point of view to the school will change positively etc. All these results will contribute to raising the quality of education. Moreover, there will be an increase in both the social and academic success of the students. We expect good impact on the participants, participant organizations and other stakeholders (students, parents etc.), which are mentioned detailed in the "Follow-up, G.1 Impact" section, within the scope of the project. We expect that the project will contibute to some positive impact such as "greater understanding and responsiveness to social, linguistic and cultural diversity", "increased competence in foreign languages", "more positive attitude towards the European project and the EU values" which are stated in the Erasmus+ programme. We are planning active and effective dissemination activities, which are mentioned in "Follow-up G.2 Dissemination and Use of Projects' Results", with the associated partners and other participating organizations of the partnership. Through the dissemination activities, we are planning to transmit the outcomes and the results of the project to a large mass. Furthermore, we want to contribute to the fulfilment of the following aim "improving the capacities of organisations active in the fields of education, training and youth, notably in the areas of strategic development, organisational management, leadership, quality of learning provision, internationalisation, equity and inclusion, qualitative and targeted activities for specific groups" which is stated in the aims of the Strategic Partnership in the Erasmus+ programme. We also want to contribute to achieving one of the targets "The share of school dropouts should be under 10 percent and at least 40 percent of the population between the ages of 30 and 34 should have a degree or diploma". also stated in the European Union's 2020 Strategy within the scope of the project.
