The project aimed at teachers „Effective teaching of the deaf – the project for the exchange of teachers’ experiences” has been realized in March 2015. It has been prepared by SOSW No. 2 in Wejherowo, in consultation and in cooperation with a partner: Euromind Projects S.L. based in Seville, Spain. The main goal of this action was the eight-days-long departure to Seville, Spain, of SOSW No 2 workers for the exchange of their professional experience. It was a group of 10 people (teachers and managers of schools), who expressed the desire to know other, innovative working methods in the education of the deaf. During the stay in Seville, many visits, meetings and seminars with the selected schools, associations and foundations, took place. These were the organizations which deal with the education of people with disabilities. The schedule had been carefully discussed and planned with the foreign partner in advance.
The following meetings and visits were carried out:
1. A visit to the school (complex of schools: kindergarten, primary and high school) Colegio Público San Pablo in Seville and familiarizing with the school facilities and joint workshops entitled: "A comparison of Spanish and Polish educational systems", and "The integration of deaf students".
2. A meeting with the representatives of the Federation of the Deaf-"Federacion Andaluza de Personas Sordas de Asociaciones", where the participants got to know the services offered by the Federation, got the information about the employment and training, support offered by the Federation for the Deaf. The discussion panel included the exchanges of experiences of students and the profile of the disable (deaf) person.
3. A visit to the " Fundosa Social Consulting Inserta"-(human resources) in the company which works for the benefit of people with disabilities. The participants of the project got to know the profile of the company and its history. They have familiarized with the methods of work and support system for people with disabilities.
4. A visit to the "Asociación Cultural Integración Sordo-Oyente". They got to know the profile of the company, its history and support systems for people with disabilities.
The main objective of the project that we were trying to accomplish was to enhance the quality of the school work, by increasing the professional competence of teachers and executives. The activities that the beneficiaries have completed during a visit to Spain, transferred to the following results:
-the participants know the organizational structure and the strategy of training in vocational education in a country with a different culture and mentality
-the participants have exchanged experiences and established a close cooperation between the teachers, schools and educational institutions for individuals who are deaf,
- the participants met interesting, different (and sometimes innovative) ways of teaching the deaf
- they got to know and then they could compare the use in the education of the deaf the sign language systems in Spain and Poland ,
- they know the methodological tenets of the achievements of the European transfer system for vocational education and training (ECVET) which has already transferrred into action in the implementation of foreign professional practice of our students ...
-The beneficiaries have perfected the methods and forms of work in the training of people with disabilities,
- they have perfected their practical skills of English and Spanish,
- a substantial partnership with the institutions responsible for the training and support of the deaf in Poland and Spain has been established, which we hope will in the future result in further meetings and visits in order to improve the working methods with the deaf youth
The foreign partner, the EuroMind company, also took great care so that the beneficiaries could get to know the realities of work and life, and cultural and historical wealth of Spain and especially Seville, where they have been. The participants of the project visited the gardens of the Royal Alcazar walked around, climed up the Giralda tower where they could admire the beautiful panorama of the city.
Teachers have accomplised the aim of the project. This improved the quality of school work and contributed to the European dimension of school. The visit has raised the level of practical knowledge of English and Spanish among teachers. Teachers became more open and ready to take on various challenges.
