The integration of markets and the increased competition in agriculture in recent years have led to the need to drastically reduce the cost of agricultural production, while the sharpened environmental problems have made it imperative to minimizing the harmful input in the field. This plan IMPLEMENTATION OF DIGITAL SYSTEMS IN AGRICULTURE aims to demonstrate how to manage agricultural production based on observation, measurement and treatment of variations within each agricultural area. It is based on new technologies, such as satellite photography, computer science and the use of remote sensing tools.
The main objectives of this proposal are:
1. Result in a better selection of agricultural practices, in line with the needs of the crop. An example is the custom application lubrication (e.g. different amounts at different points of the field).
2. To reduce the environmental footprint of farming. i.e. to reduce the excessive use of chemicals and excessive use of agricultural machinery
3. Be able to give, ultimately, increased production of better quality and quantity, increasing the income of the farmer.
The technologies that make precision agriculture possible nowadays include the development of sensors, automation and remote sensing technologies; with precision agriculture it will be able to address the problems of a field more effectively and also there will be benefits for the farmer that will focus on:
1. Increase production efficiency.
2. Improvement of product quality.
3. Rational and efficient use of chemical inputs.
4. Reduce energy consumption.
5. Protection of soil and groundwater
6. Customization of the production process.
During the planning and implementation of the project, the Cooperative acts with the criterion of a successful adaptation and in the improvement of the participants skills in order to enable them to cope better with the growing needs of the modern business world and make themselves more competitive in the market since they will have the right skills to organize their business and their staff better and more effectively and understand the economic changes in the business / rural areas in which they operate and exploit these changes.
Upon project completion, participants will have gained multiple benefits relating to:
1. Knowledge regarding the new technology to be used on crops ,
2. Active dynamic mobility aid in business / production base of the country,
3. Gaining experience regarding the benefits they will have on their crops and transfer of knowledge to their workers,
4. Evaluation of the educational process and meetings with all other participants, where there will be a comparison of experiences,
5. Understanding of the importance of the requirements for compliance with environmental regulations ,
6. Understanding how and technical functions of the application,
7. Knowledge of the multiplier benefits they will have in both economic and environmental terms,
8. Knowing about the cost and payback time it takes for the purchase of equipment and installation.
This action will have multiplier effects and benefits for the participants, as it will provide the framework for future cooperation and networking, as well as for actors involved who will confirm earlier cooperation in European programs. This adds value the action because it creates an environment where apart from skill development and acquisition of new knowledge for the beneficiaries, it promotes a European collaborative environment.
The host organization PROBER SOC. COOP. that is chosen for the implementation of the program is from Italy. This choice is not random regarding the country selected because it has a highly developed agricultural sector and also regarding the Host Institution as it has implemented programs with similar themes.
The program will be implemented from 02/05/2015 to 16/05/2015 with the participation of 25 HR managers.
