The project “"education unlimited - rely on partners in Europe", abbreviated "eu-rope", offers students on full-time BTEC-Courses as well as trainees in the dual system the chance to gather work experience in their future profession by strengthening their intercultural competencies at the same time. For this purpose participating students do a four-to-six-week work placement in companies or institutions of their professional field. The applying vocational college “Berufskolleg Deutzer Freiheit”, Cologne, as well as its cooperating partner “Berufskolleg St. Nikolaus-Stift”, Zülpich, have had long-term experience with sending and receiving young people. Predominantly we have been focusing on stimulating our participants’ independance, including students with handicaps and special needs. Quite a number of trainees profit from the international contacts of their training company when finding a suitable work placement. Furthermore the two vocational colleges have been cultivating a wide network of various national and international partners. For the current application it has been projected to send abroad about 90 participants doing an initial vocational training. Additionally the project “eu-rope” is aimed at those who are responsible in the field of vocational training. They get the chance of upgrading their competencies and sharing their educational “best practice ideas and experience” with partners abroad. This way the project has been appreciated by many national and international network-partners of the above-mentioned vocational colleges. It does not only focus on upgrading the intercultural competencies of its participants but all the same on the personal and professional profit from a work placement abroad.
