PROJECT
FINISHED
This project seeks to improve energy efficiency by promoting cogeneration from biomass or biofuel. This highly energy-efficient technology also produces electricity and exploitable heat simultaneously. Cogeneration engines may be powered by several types of combustible matter. Ecotec 21 intends to test these – particularly glycerol as well as waste from the agricultural and wood industries – by installing engines in various existing infrastructures to study the resulting energy benefit. It is also planning on facilitating these installations by listing the related procedures and establishing models (installation authorisation, supply contract, energy management, etc.). Lastly, it is going to raise users', inhabitants' and decision-makers' awareness. Achievements: Studying and promoting the benefits of combined heat and power (CHP) technology from biomass or bio-fuel to save energy - compared with traditional heating systems - is at the core of the ECOTEC 21 project. Cogeneration is already in use in some European countries, yet to a lesser extent in the United Kingdom and in France, hence the need for the two countries to work together on that topic. Tools compiling legal, contractual and logistical requirements for implementing the CHP technology will be created for French and English decision-makers.
