PROJECT
FINISHED
In this EVS project, volunteers will work for Stifting Wurkgroep Bûtengebiet Droegeham. The volunteers (space for two) will work at a farm and in a environmental organization. Volunteers will be actively involved in and aware about the environment. The volunteers who are selected are usually not used to the farm life but in this way they will learn a lot about the animals and the environment. A huge part of the project is showing and teaching visiting children and groups about ecological farming and preserving the environment. In addition to this they will go to schools to inform students about the country they come from and the rural life and help other farmers in the community with different tasks. And they will also be involved in community activities such as parades, etc.
The volunteers will learn during their 12 month EVS placement to develop their own initiative. The volunteers will live in an environment where they do not know anybody at first. Their social skills will improve because they have to make contact with and integrate in the local community. The volunteers will learn how to live and survive in another culture and develop their own point of view. During their EVS placement the volunteers learn to be open minded, as things will turn out different from her expectations. At the end of their EVS placement the volunteers will get a Youthpass. Because of the personal support provided by the mentor the volunteers will be stimulated to think about what the volunteer wants to improve. The project also has impact on the local community, where the rural inhabitants will meet with people from different cultures and learn about the possibilities of EVS.
In the long term the volunteers learn thanks to their EVS placement to develop their independency and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, long term benefits can be found in the fact that the volunteers will bring their newly learned skills and competences back to their home countries, where they will inspire others to take the same step.
