In June the pupils from the 7th year ‘Logistics’ head to Taastrup and Greve (Denmark) for an international internship with some logistical providers (mentioned below) over a timespan of three weeks:TAASTRUP:- H. Essers Danmark;- Danske Fragtmaend;- Freja;GREVE:- Blue Water Shipping;- PrimeCargo en- Top-Toy.On starting this project our main goals are:1 to practise and improve technical knowledge and skills;2 to practise speaking a foreign language (i.e. English and some Danish);3 to explore and get a taste of the mentality and culture of the host country;4 gain and maintain professional connections;5 to develop respect for other ways of production and;6 to grow in being independent.(1) In said firms the pupils get the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills they were taught during the schoolyear into practice.(2) With this internship we also support English as one of the subjects in the pupils’ curriculum. On the workfloor and in a realistic working environment pupils immediately experience the practical use of their knowledge and skills of the English language they practised over the schoolyear. The importance of a good communication with partners in the foreign language has already proven to be an evident necessity from day 1.(3) Over the course of 3 weeks pupils taste the mentality and culture of the host country (Denmark) first hand.(4) The pupils stay in touch with a few co-workers of the trainee posts via social network sites like Facebook.(5) During the internship pupils make use of motorised intern ways of transport like a fork-lift truck, reachtruck and stapler.(6) By day pupils were dependent on themselves to execute their tasks properly and under safe conditions.
