The project "Volunteerism – pathway for realization" aimed public recognition of volunteerism as tool for successful realization of young people in the labor market and tackling youth unemployment. The project conducted a research, data collection and analysis on the role of volunteering as a factor to deal with youth unemployment among various target groups in Bulgaria. More than 200 young people - volunteers and young people who never volunteered, participated in the research, which measured and compared their professional, social and entrepreneurial skills.
The project included an exchange and transfer of good practices, programs and methods for validation of volunteering as part of formal and informal learning from the partner countries - Italy and Slovakia. A transnational youth forum was held where young people - volunteers from Bulgaria, Italy and Slovakia shared their opinion and expectations in terms of increase and recognition of their skills gained through volunteerism. As a result, an innovative for Bulgaria program "Volunteerism based skills" that will increase the capacity of youth workers and organizations to work with volunteers, was developed.
Introduction of the research and the developed program was made in a series of events. The public audience included direct stakeholders - young people and employers, as well as NGO, local, regional and national authorities, educational institutions, media, etc.,
At the end of the project Closing meeting forum was organized, which summarized the results and outlined future intentions towards recognition and validation of non-formal and informal learning on national and European level. The expected results were: employers, HR agencies and platforms for finding a job to apply new requirements in recruitment and taking into consideration already developed through volunteering skills of young people; increased interest from organizations and institutions to actively implement volunteerism programs as a tool for personal development of young people; involvement of more young people in voluntary activities.
The project supported the authors of “Proposal for Law of volunteerism in Bulgaria” to introduce changes that will provide and ensure quality implementation of this type of work. As a long term aim, the project contributed to the validation of the soft skills as part of the National Qualifications Framework system and promoted the organizations working with volunteers to find their place in this process.
The project "Volunteering - a factor for realization" lasted 19 months and is implemented by the "National Alliance for Volunteer Action" Foundation, Bulgaria in partnership with Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" Bulgaria, " Industry Watch Group" Bulgaria, "CENTRO PER LO Sviluppo Creativo "DANILO Dolci" Italy, "C.A.R.D.O."
