The Municipality of Torrioni (AV) aims to host an intercultural exchange from 12th to 20th of July, with 18 participants coming from places geographically disadvantaged , of four different countries. The exchange "Discover, then defend it"; will focus on the protection and preservation of the environment as a daily practice to be implemented by all European citizens. Through the knowledge of our environmental heritage involved young people will also learn how to respect and adopt habits that can help preserving it. The meeting among young people coming from different socio-cultural contexts will allow us to analyze the causes of not environmental friendly behaviors (such as pollution and waste of resources), to share best practices and to broaden the horizons towards a "peaceful coexistence" between man and nature.
The exchange will start from the knowledge of our natural heritage, often unkown and underestimated, of the locations where the exchange will take place (Irpinia), describing and comparing the risks that our territory is currently running because of the misconduct of the whole citizenship. Once the group discover these places, the next step is to propose them as leisure time destinations, ables to gather young people in contact with nature, reaching a genuine welness that constrasts individualism, more and more exacerbated in recent decades. The goal is to build together an environmental conscience that would increase the sense of active citizenship as, in this specific context, promotion of the development of their territory.
The participants will be involved in non-formal education activities through which they can actively experiment alternative behaviors and gain their own awareness of active citizenship: this way they will be able to act as multipliers of these principles and actions in their territories. In fact, the follow-up activities expect that all participants back in their countries will engage in identifying areas of great potential that could be valued and present them to the local municipaly with the support of a local network.
