Digital Children's Folksongs for Language and Cultural Learning
Start date: Oct 1, 2010,

Most scientists agree that the earlier a child is exposed to a language, the easier it is for the child to learn that language. However, the crucial thing is to decide on the appropriate way and material in early exposure to languages. “Folk DC” builds upon the success of a previous Lingua project based on children folk songs. This received over 1.5 million views of its educational materials. The “Folk DC” partners will research and collect children folk songs in 10 European languages; produce a pedagogical tool comprising four packages: 1) Children lyrics, translations, background story, music score, recordings; 2) Activities to stimulate children’s language and cultural awareness3) Singing practices to enhance musical communication4) ICT training for recording and sound effects. The tool will be realized in cooperation with local schools, piloted and perfected; uploaded on the project’s website and disseminated to EU schools as an Autonomous Teacher Training Tool (ATTT).European schools may use the ATTT and send recording and filming of school choirs, participating to the online open source.Five Workshops will be organized by the partner institutions for local teachers and teachers from other EU countries who may apply for grants to cover expenses.A Telephone Technical Support Service will be active for a period offering technical and content related support to teachers using the ATTT. A Synchronized Concert will be organized in five prestigious venues in London (UK), Adana (TR), Sastamala (FI), Prahova (RO), Madrid (ES). This will feature a local school choir, distinguished folk singers and maxi-screen projection of the concerts from the other four locations. Due to its vast dissemination purposes and technical rehearsals of stakeholders, the project needs three years for completion. The ATTT will be a sustainable resource, added to school products managed by an Association created for dissemination and sustainability at the end of the project.
