Project title: 'Inter-cultural dimension to education through innovative programmes of study and use of new technologies'
The present project regards further education and training of members of staff of the 1st Second Chance School of Korydallos, education executives, adult educators and career advisers, who wish to take part in Erasmus+, so as to be trained on adult education issues, innovative practices and methods of teaching, including new technologies, applied in similar schools of the host country.
The participants of the proposed project are educators with significant qualifications in adult education (holding postgraduate and doctoral degrees), as well as educators with less experience, who need further training. It should be mentioned that our school operates in a quite underdeveloped area in the west part of the city of Athens.
The present project includes visits for updating and co-operation taking place in schools aimed at adult education, in local institutions which introduce relevant educational policies, as well as seminars on relevant subjects. This can be realized within an inter-cultural context.
In the contemporary economic and social reality we are all experiencing, in a changing, competitive and internationalized labor market, the priorities for education have been shifted from knowledge acquisition to skills and competencies and to the lifelong adaptation of the individual to a high risk society.
Especially in adult education, the role of school today, apart from helping learners reintegrate into the educational system and reinforce their social roles, also requires, due to the high percentage of unemployment, to orientate them towards a training procedure that can eventually lead to the development of new skills which correspond to the continuously changing needs of the labor market.
The specific objectives of the proposed project are:
- The cultural interaction of the participants with the people, history and civilization of the host country.
- The further education of the participants through modern systems and innovative practices in adult education so as to transfer and implement the acquired knowledge in the corresponding situation in Greece.
- The acquisition of knowledge and skills not only in the form of formal learning but also informal ones through procedures such as distance learning, collaborative work in groups etc.
- The implementation of new methods using an interactive way of teaching and, in general, the modernization and adaptation of the Greek educational system according to the model and techniques of other European ones.
- The exchange of ideas with institutions in the host country, the interaction and gain of knowledge as well as the European dimension in education practices.
- The ability to compare educational systems, methods and techniques of teaching which can result in the adoption of positive teaching practices.
- The improvement of observation and prediction techniques regarding the possible needs of the labor market in the future.
Complementary objectives are:
- Broadening of the professional horizons and the acquisition of European experience for the participants, as well as strengthening the European dimension in our school.
- Practice of the English language and familiarization (at a basic level) with the language used in the host country.
The host organizations, with which we have already been in contact, implement innovative teaching programmes following the methodology that can cover the above mentioned goals.
Further education of the participants will contribute to the following:
- Integration of new methods in their teaching in order to achieve enhanced performance in a multicultural environment which will result in the cultivation of the triptych: Knowledge - Skills - Attitudes.
- Integration of new techniques improvιng in this way the way of teaching and developing further the curriculum and in general the Greek educational system.
- Updating on matters of use of new technologies in education.
Practically, all the above mentioned can contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and experience so that education can be connected with the current social situation and get the best possible benefit in the long run.
