The DEW project will design, pilot and introduce an on-line training course in strategy, management and ICT skills tailored to the needs of SME wholesale business managers and owners. This specialised and flexible learning programme should strengthen the small firms' capacity to face growing international competition. Developments will be guided by an initial review of specialist training and qualifications for the target group within Europe. Once designed and developed, the learning resource will be piloted in IT, AU & UK with the final version made available via partner web sites in four languages (EN, DE, IT & EL). Results will comprise a gap analysis tool, individual learning plans, workbooks and learning resources, materials on CD-Rom, interactive assessments and ICT-based mentoring support. The promoter will submit the course for certification to the Institute of Leadership and Management (UK) at NVQ level 4. This is expected to establish the course as a baseline for educational standards in this field in Europe. Dissemination will target trade and commerce associations, trade unions and training organisations via an electronic newsletter, articles in trade or professional magazines and presentations at trade fairs and conferences. A series of four national seminars will further publicise the end results.
