Development of Research Infrastructure for Education in the Humanities in Eastern Latvia, Lithuania (HipiLatLit)

The objective of the project is to modernise the humanities tertiary education in Eastern Latvia and Lithuania (Kaunas) by developing a joint research projects and infrastructure. The main benefits of the project are: 1) Parallel corpora (Lithuanian-Latvian and Latvian-Lithuanian). Language corpora is a word database of entries collected from a wide range of sources, designed to reflect the key features of modern language.2) The special corpora (Latgalian) - a database of texts in Latgalian language.3) Research Lithuanian-Latvian-Latgalian Language Lexicon.4) Joint interdisciplinary doctoral study programme in Baltistics.Project and intended research is bound to provide humanities academic staff and students at tertiary education institutions of Kaunas and Rezekne basic computational linguistics skills, thus, ensuring both the quality of individual researches and open availability of research on the internet. Furthermore, project shall strengthen competitiveness of regional university academic staff and positively influence further development of business environment, culture and education. At the same time it strives to use the existing and planned resources efficiently. IT resources and language tools used by humanities will be streamlined.
