Development of cross border tourism - heritage for future generations

The overall objective of the project was to develop cross-border cooperation by improving the tourism potential associated with preserving the cultural heritage in the border regions - Olecko and Alytus. Achievements: Strengthening the links between the border regions of Poland and Lithuania was facilitated by the reconstruction of two public squares in Olecko and Simnas, the organisation of periodic new events promoting regional cultures: Polish-Lithuanian folk fair (Olecko), folklore meeting (Simnas), Christmas carol concert (Olecko) and three study tours. One of the biggest cultural event, the folklore festival ‘Subatos vakarėly’ was combined with the official opening of Simnas historical town square, which attracted local community and decision makers. The next interesting activities of the project were regular youth exchanges, including the participation of disabled young people.
