As our children currently have minimal experience and exposure to languages through school but have a passion and desire, and show great potential to learn, the key aim of this project is to improve the level of competences and skills for our staff to deliver quality language provision in our school. We aim to develop a passion and desire for Lifelong Learning of Language, to give our children the opportunity to embrace cultural awareness to become equipped for the future to tap to into the opportunities that can be found in the global environment. The objective of the project is to change attitude and increase confidence and competence when delivering French across school for all staff. To develop a clear plan of progression, to develop language skills from Early Years through to Year 6 ensuring this is sustained and embedded into our school curriculum in preparation for the significant changes being made in September to the MFL curriculum and requirements in schools. as part of our commitment to raising global and cultural awareness in our children and building their lust for languages. School plans to send three members of staff over a two year period, to develop a strong team to teach and support the teaching and learning throughout school. The first participant will be schools Higher Level Teaching Assistant who has previously taught French across school as part of PPA provision and also runs an after school French club. She is a frequent visitor to France and has some knowledge of French and a strong desire to become more fluent and competent , and to improve her skills which will then enable her to share and develop this across school. She is confident in delivering this subject and is passionate and enthusiastic to drive improvements in Teaching and Learning of French in our school. Further members to be selected at a later date, then to attend immersion courses over the the two year project which will give us the opportunity to identify and fill any gaps we may have. Activities during the visit will include intensive language training and the opportunity to visit a school to experience teaching in a European school first hand and to talk to children about their experiences of learning another language. The course gives the opportunity to immerse in the village life of provincial France. Including selected activities including meeting the Mayor, traditional dancing and games. Living and speaking French for a week! School is to develop an action plan to carry out this project to measure the impact it has. We will measure where we feel we are at now via surveys and pupil interviews, identify requirements and begin to Schools data tracking will be developed to ensure progression which will measure the impact of the project. Our vision is to embrace this opportunity and develop staff competence providing the tools to teach French competently. School has therefore to ensure support is in place for professional development in terms of language skills and the pedagogy of language teaching, to ensure we have staff skilled in delivering quality language provision and to embed languages into our school developing cross curricular links and finding a partner school to make learning languages a real life experience for our children.
