Developing research for the improvement of red pepper cultivation technologies in tunnel conditions for a quality final product (RedpepperTRD)

The Hungarian and Romanian producers of red pepper face a common problem in assuring the conditions to remain on the market, reducing the production costs, increasing the income and competitively by delivering high quality of raw and processed products. One of the solutions to the above-mentioned problem is to develop the R&D activities, which aims to cultivate the red pepper under protected conditions and to develop specific technology. Furthermore, there is a need for developing new consumer segments, for extra and premium quality products. According to the climatic conditions, approx. 95% of the national red pepper is produced in the Del- Alfoldi, Timis and Arad region, which is another reason to develop the common transnational R&D activities.The general objective of the project is to contribute to the increase of regional employment and to the fulfillment of the environmental and food safety requirements.The specific objectives are targeted towards R&D activities for the development of the red pepper cultivation under protected conditions, creation of common hybrids, variety testing, post-harvest and processing technologies, the implementation of the quality assurance schemes and the dissemination of the project results.The dissemination of the R&D results (trainings, events, publications, webpage consultation) contribute to the development of the knowhow of the persons working in the R&D sector, students, consultants, entrepreneurs, authorities, control bodies, rural development agencies, representatives of local authorities.The target groups of the project are the red pepper food chain participants as producers- processors- traders- consumers as direct beneficiary of the results The indirect beneficiary are those who are working in the R& D sector, education and trainings, consultancy, in the control systems( authorities).The results of the cross border project is the improvement of the quantity and quality of the raw material and therefore of the final product as well, higher inner content, increasing the employment, the use of environmentally friendly technologies, the educational level of participants and improving the quality of the delivered products.
