The CULTURE SHAKE project of Association of contemporary art and culture - Different Vision is a longterm EVS project, in which5 volunteers from different European countries will work in several cultural institutions in Stara Zagora. The Association will coordinate their work in general, at the same time having personal mentor of each volunteer in the institutions. Except in the regular instituions' activities, the volunteers will also take part in colaborative initiatives of the partners, as well as in cultural events, popularizing their native countries and the Erasmus + programme.
The context of the project was provoked by a model of work, at whom the team of the Association was presented during an EVS training in Poland in 2013. For the first time this model of coordination will be applied in Stara Zagora. Except as a tool for creating a network metween cultural institutions and NGOs, the project serves as an inoovative and practical interpratation of the term "culture shock", replacing it with the more positive "culture shake".
The volunteers themselves were chosen in line with the vision of the cultural partners, according to their skills and experience up to now, as well as taking into consideration their personal interests. The project gives big opportunities for self-development of the volunteers, with missions similar to professional practice and in the same time - support for personal expression and creativity.
The methodology includes interactive methods, used in non-formal environment. Some of the key activities are:
- Planning and self-evaluation - series of youth art meetings, creating personal portfolios of the participants, to be used in their Youthpass and additional certificates
- Mentroship and teambuilding - individual and group session for additional support, art-therapy, group visits or participation in cultural events out of the project, etc
- Cultural events, various in topic and size - organizing partnership events between the institutions, intercultural events, initialized by the volunteers, events, inspired by local youth and volunteers, etc.
- Interactive internet presence of the project, dedicated to attracting youth to the activities and results
The expected impact could be in the following aspects:
- positive influence in fighting xenophoby among various target groups
- creating fruitful and diversive cultural environment for the directly involved participants at one hand and for the local community at another
- openning of the local institutions to working with youth and NGO
- positive attitude towards the role of volunteersim in society
