The project involves one young person from the UK taking part in a European Voluntary Service project for 6 months with Parus Nadezhdy, an NGO based in Samara in Russia aiming at providing integration of the disabled children of Samara region into society and to promoting the ideas of independent life philosophy and social approach to disability.The participant will be actively involved with the work of the receiving organisation, interacting with the disabled children in the organisation or at home, to help them accomplish day to day tasks (eat, walk, etc.). He will also help the children develop their creative and intellectual abilities and propose them activities such as painting, reading, drama, sports, etc.The volunteer will also be involved in the preparation and organisation of regular events, run by the centre: seminars, training for parents, festivals for children, etc. Moreover the volunteers will be encourage to initiate any kind of activity together with children in accordance with his centres of interest. This project provides a young person who wishes to discover Russia, learn a new language, work with disabled children and take initiatives, etc. with an excellent opportunity to achieve these aims.During the project it is expected that he will develop new social and personal skills, as well as practical knowledge and experiences which will help him in his future career. The project will also provide an invaluable intercultural dimension to the work of the receiving organisation and to the lives of its beneficiaries. Through the practical support, enthusiasm and energy bought by the participant it is expected that the project will give added value to the work of the host organisation and provide a contribution towards their aim of improving social inclusion for people with disabilities in Russia.
