Creative Peace Builders
Start date: May 2, 2016, End date: Mar 1, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since the appeal of violent extremism is growing around the world, more than ever before, the response to violent extremism needs to be meaningful youth participation at all levels. In response to extremist violence, governments have taken action to counter violent extremist movements, often through military force. However, this approach only tackles the symptoms of the problem and increases the feeling of exclusion and fails to engage youth as key allies in building resilience against violent extremism. This youth exchange including 24 participants from 18 -25 years of age from Germany, Malta, Ukraine and Georgia reflects the links between democracy, countering violent extremism and human rights. All of the above-mentioned areas lay the basis for peaceful, inclusive and diverse societies characterized by sustainable and genuine opportunities for all.Through this project we would like to create a common arena for young people to share experiences and shape a better, diverse and inclusive future. In addition, the fight against racism, hate speech and discrimination is an essential component of a strategy against violent extremism. The content of the project implies to organize street arts (painting, exhibitions) in public playground and promote international youth work as an extra tool for inclusion of young people into society; the exchange will create a safe and secure environment that encourages expression through the arts, including some participants who belong to the group of youth with fewer opportunities. The activities foreseen by the project will provide participants with new essential skills for breaking the stereotypes about other cultures and create a positive atmosphere of common understanding, tolerance, diversity, united Europe; additionally it enables to raise sense of confidence and show the way how to take an important role for positive changes in society. Additionally, the exchange will empower young people to have a voice through arts and creative workshops and help them to reach their potential by assisting them to set up projects of their own.We do believe that the youth exchange will empower the participants and we will be able to give them perfect opportunity to stay engaged as young leaders in their societies as well as active and democratic citizens. We also expect that the participants motivation and hard-working attitude will raise and together with the gained experience and skills they will speak up not only in their local communities, but also on international level through new initiatives and projects..
