A total of eight Latvian and Lithuanian communities have spearheaded a drive to make their environment greener and more attractive to live in. During landscaping campaigns, members of these communities built benches, installed trash bins, signs, info stands, foot-bridges and also planted trees and flowers in eleven public spaces, including Ludza Castle and the Odu Mounds, Rezekne town hall square and beach of public lake, Luznava Park, the central square and open air stage in Aglona, Kraslava Castle Park, Smelyne Park in Utena, Anyksciai Park and Kupiskis Mound Park. As a symbol of the cross-border cooperation among neighbouring countries “Country of Lakes”, alley was designed and planted in Kraslava. The project also included organising of an international forum “Green Community & Green Investments” and preparation of e-newsletter „Green Investments” to build consensus among local inhabitants on the advantages of a favourable living environment and sustainable use of local nature resources. Environmental education of youth, understanding and awareness-raising on human and environment interaction was integrated into a 3-day motivational training.
