Continuing educational development and harmonisation of expert teachers in General Practice/Family Medicine in Europe through a systematic process of quality improvement
The Project was aimed at development of General Practice/Family Medicine (GP/FM) teachers competencies appraisal process to ensure greater harmonisation and convergence of the GP teachers competencies at the European level. The importance of GP/FM as a pivotal part of primary health care systems is widely recognized all over the world. Specialty training and continuing education for European GPs is a crucial matter due to upcoming medical and demographic challenges as well as due to growing scale of medical workers mobility across EU countries.The project was a continuation of the previous one (no. 2010-1-PL1-LEO05-11460) and was run by 7 organizations. All of the project partners organization have great experience in GP education projects, employ highly recognized European experts and have both organizational as well as financial resources to ensure realization of the project objectives and guarantee long-term sustainably. The project was aimed at provision of properly evaluated, high quality and formally accepted tools for appraising GM/FM teachers competencies. The connection with the previous project was crucial – its product: The “Framework for Continuing Educational Development of Trainers in General Practice/Family Medicine in Europe” provided the description of GP/FM teachers competencies at different levels whilst developed and implemented the “Leonardo-EURACT courses” provide practical opportunity to acquire the specific competencies. The current project provides tools for the teacher to measure and benchmark his/her level of competence.
