CONOCER PARA APRENDER II
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our Project aims at covering learning needs among teachers and students involved in Middle-grade Vocational Training Cycles in two ways: theoretical-practical training in skills related to the corresponding modality and linguistic training in a language different from their mother tongue. In this sense, we have chosen a Belgian centre where we have requested training and the possibility to observe new methodologies and the work planning used; and also a centre in Lisbon that for many years has trained our students on theoretical-practical skills, counts both with a broad experience in the field and an optimal internal organization and that due to the proximity with our country also facilitates communication and avoids travel inconveniences (we bear in mind that our students could be under age). The interest shown by our Middle-grade students regarding these grants (to date, as part of the Leonardo Programme) has been very satisfactory since it allows transfer of theoretical knowledge acquired at the Educational Centre to a real working environment. It also facilitates communication in a European language different from their mother tongue. Our proposal is to request four mobility grants for the students to visit the centre sited in Portugal that attends elderly people (Sociedade da beneficencia) for a period of four weeks (in the period April-June 2016). The students would be at the second year of the Middle-grade Vocational Training Cycle on Care for Dependent People offered at our centre (Tomás Navarro Tomás). The selection process would be carried out by a teacher commission from the educational centre directed by a coordinator. The criteria for selection would be based on student´s motivation, involvement in the course and enthusiasm, regardless of their social or personal condition. The commission would carry out information activities at the beginning of the course, selection activities in January 2015 (personal interviews, academic record, knowledge on languages assessed by qualified teachers) and finally mobility support activities after compliance of the students selected. As part of their training, the activities that students would carry out at the centre (activities addressed to acquire the desired professional profile) would be, among others, to meet the needs of elderly people residents in areas such as psycho-social care, physical, hygienic and feeding needs as well as social and accompanying requirements. The results obtained, as we have observed to date, are both qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative results are visible throughout the personal satisfaction of our students after the practical period. Quantitative results are based on the progressive improvement of job placement of our students. It would also result in a stronger confidence and motivation of teachers as education professionals to face the new challenges of European education. We would get the chance to communicate and share experiences with European colleagues throughout the E-twinning platform, refresh our knowledge in languages and also in teaching methodologies which would lead to a stronger compromise in our work, making our educational centre Known (school faculty, school board)and also would have an impact on the entire educational community ( radio, press, etc.). We would also like to request for 2 teachers the grants of personnel mobility for training.
