Background:
Our schools have been involved in international projects of different kinds and has experienced CLIL both at the primary and secondary schools of our ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO. We wish to build upon the successful foundation established last year. (Please be aware that our school has been renamed Monteverde; in 2012-2013 it participated under the umbrella name of G. Bella which is now a separate institution within the Acqui Terme educational structure.)
The international dimension which is part of the school identity (the POF, teaching plan) will be better understood after following the European refreshing courses we have chosen.
The main objectives of CONNECTING TO EUROPE project are related to the areas for improvement we have identified:
A) cultural - European, B) linguistic, C) ICT- mathematics, D) inclusion.
They can se summarized as follows:
- motivate our students and staff
- develop new and varied student-centred strategies of teaching and communication
- provide teachers with new teaching ideas, skills and resource materials which engage pupils and promote active learning
- recognise that teachers themselves are lifelong learners
- improve not only the quality of the teaching of English (and other modern foreign languages) but also in other subjects
- deploy interesting and varied activities for classes, including small group workshops
- develop the international dimension of the school
- develop an understanding of the concepts of diversity, culture and inclusion
- acquire a number of skills and competences for dealing with SEN in education
- pick up ideas from other countries which can be incorporated into our own practice
- have improved competence of the use of English by our staff (in nursey, primary and secondary schools)
- fully apply the principles of EU directives respecting equal opportunities (gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilty), and
devise appropriate policies within the school/community for dealing effectively with stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination
-recognise the value of European integration, whilst retaining respect for individual countries' cultural heritage, traditions and values
- show respect for minority groups and apply positive discrimination in appropriate circumstances
-monitor and self-evaluate our progress towards meeting our objectives
