A lack of conflict resolution strategies can threaten healthy relation and the coherence of society. An increasing diversification of modern societies demands the competences of young people to deal with differences in norms, values and ways of living and the conflicts that may arise from it.
The TC “Conflict resolution in intercultural perspective” therefore addressed the need of a more advanced conflict resolution competence of young people by equipping youth workers and youth leaders with the necessary skills to help their target groups to develop it.
The specific objectives of the project were:
• To deepen the understanding of concepts of conflict amongst the participants by exploring the potential of different cultural traditions towards the topic
• To equip youth workers and youth leaders with the necessary skills and innovative methods to raise conflict resolution competences of young people
• To provide a space for reflecting on the implication of the gained knowledge and skills related to youth work
• To establish a network of like-minded organizations and individuals, who are interested in the further exchange on the topic of conflict resolution in an intercultural perspective and in setting up follow-up projects for young people in this thematic field
The Training Course has been addressed to youth workers and youth leaders, who either already worked or expressed strong intentions to work in the thematic field of conflict resolution or peace building. The project consisted of one training course, which was held in Aghveran, Armenia involving 28 youth workers and youth leaders from 11 different countries. The training course was conducted in the spirit of the non-formal education approach.
As a result of this training course the participants have wider opportunities to analyze and solve their personal and professional conflicts, following the values and approaches of non-violence and culture of peace. The competences gained during the project are transferred to their organizations and target groups of the participating organisations with a multiplying effect. The long term benefit of the project will be the contribution to the development of peaceful social relations as well as the reinforcement of peaceful coherence of European youth and solidarity in Europe.
