The IES Alhama is a Obligatory and Further Secondary Education centre, in which special attention is given to diversity, giving equal weight to small groups with learning difficulties as to groups of students who are especially motivated to learn languages. The school sports bilingual sections for both French and English, as well as Official Language School suplementary classes for both languages. In addition, student exchange programs are developed with other European countries by means of COMENIUS and other projects.
Of the 54 teachers at the school, 10 are participating in this project. These teachers are already involved in foreign exchanges and in the bilingual sections. The training activities planned for these teachers are spread between three skillsets: English- and French-language skills, bilingual teaching methodology, and ICTs. This training corresponds to the areas for improvement in the school and will optimise linguistic exchanges, the teaching techniques used in bilingual classes and the use of Google services, which have proven indispensable in all exchanges thus far.
With the school’s current situation and the possibility of improving its performance in mind, meetings are being organised for interested teachers. In these, the needs of the school, the teacher profile, the activities proposed by the partners, and the long- and short-term benefits will all be analysed, as well as the impact on the school itself and the local area. In this way, the effects of the recieved training is expected to be felt all the way from the school itself (teachers and students) to associated institutions such as youth groups, teacher-support centres and various departments of the local administration.
