PROJECT
FINISHED
We are surrounded by rural areas that were closed to the outside for a long time, whose “senhoralismo” and practicing a subsistence economy remained below the poverty line, until today the inhabitants of this regions are faced to this problems. A huge part of the youth is umemployed and does not enjoy an active citizenship, full and healthy, which is reflected in low volunteer levels, verifying that they have a low self-esteem and individual self-recognition, a low ability to undertake, take initiatives and poor access to information.
After the project is finished we are sure about the importance of it and we are content that the young people from those regions joined the volunteer in activities, to have different moments than older generations, to acquire new skills and to discover other cultures.
We intended to invest in these opportunities to rebuild their way. In this way, they were able to overcome the obstacles that had crossed their daily lives and they felt more like being European citizens. We could not fail to mention that another origin of this project was that it enabled the possibility for the local population to live with a young person from a different culture, which promoted solidarity between individuals and a true "learning service". With regard to the volunteer, we also wanted her, in this unstable environment in Europe, to acquire a set of tools and skills that are useful in the professional, personal and social life, and enjoy a different culture, enjoying where we live and our country. The objectives of this project were to promote the acquisition of new skills for personal, educational and professional development of voluntary, through non-formal learning experiences; to develop community spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect; to provide youth, community and voluntary interculturalism; to boost creativity and entrepreneurship, fostering job creation; to raise the awareness of European citizenship and sustainable growth; to develop youth interest in the EVS.
The selected volunteer during the project was 27 years old, has Polish citizenship and lives in Poland.
In this project a participatory methodology based on non-formal and informal education activities was applied. The volunteer was involved in supporting the operation of the Community School, providing support to the monitors and developing under their guidance the daily activities with children and young people. The volunteer had the opportunity to develop, according to her competences/ skillsand knowledge, including the support in leading workshops for children and young people on issues related to their educational background. She also provided support in the preparation / creation of strategies to improve the communication of the association, including support in updating the blog, facebook and pamphlet; supporting the creation of promotional materials for the activities of the association. To improve her written and spoken Portuguese language, she supported the implementation of the Newsletter "O Caroça", conducting interviews and preparing texts. She also supported the creation of a new image for the newsletter and the organization. The volunteer received weekly language training. The volunteer also move to Agrupamento de Escolas de Arga e Lima, a partner entity of AJD and school attended by the children of the rural parishes of intervention, to support teachers in extra-curricular activities. Besides, he/ she will support the realization and implementation of a communication plan (internal and external) and support with the achievement of promotional material for the activities of the association. The volunteer also supported the teachers in the Agrupamento de Escolas de Arga e Lima in extra-curricular activities.
The project created and strengthened the like of the young people for their local place.
With the outlined activities the volunteer acquired and / or enhanced skills and competences for her personal, professional and social life, boosting their creative spirit and entrepreneurial skills and learning a new language. Therefore, this project promoted training / education encouraging volunteers and young people who participate in the project to learn, study and update their skills.
