Project COBWEB increases cultural exhange and promotes sustainable development in the CB region. It creates models for cross-border co-operation where the key actors, universities, museums and nature and environmental schools, are together building environmental educational trainings, materials and programmes which are touching to peoples feelings and senses, but at the same time combine the latest knowledge on the environmental and sustainability status with the effective environmental communication. The project's primary target group is environmental educators in Nature and Environmental Schools and other organisations like museums and national park visitor centres that are offering and building environmental awareness raising programmes. The problem faced by them is being overloaded by everyday practicalities. The time and other resources needed to require, receive and discuss the latest environmental knowledge for development activities are limited. On the other hand the research community and environmental authorities have not enough experience or motivation to transfer and communicate even existing knowledge with the environmental educators. The partnership in COBWEB combines the scientific approach with concrete awareness raising activity and methodology approach to a joint educational material building process with concrete outputs. The partner organisations are also important knots in many national and international networks that support the dissemination of the projects results through the programme area. The carrying idea for the planning process has been to build a "working and learning together" -project with common concrete outputs and transnational value and which none of the partners could accomplish either alone or in national partnership. The project’s Expert Forums and workshops arranged, environmental education trainings, exhibitions, materials and programmes produced aim to improve the substantial and outreach technical capacity in promoting sustainable development. The project website allows to a visitor both access to each material separately and to adventurous drama pedagogical role tours through the materials that challenge to a problem solving search for a sustainable way of life. Achievements: The COBWEB project strengthened the connection between the sources and users of environmental information. The project created models of national and cross-border cooperation in environmental education between universities, environmental and nature schools in addition to museums in the Central Baltic region. To gain the latest knowledge in the field of environmental education and sustainability, the COBWEB project organised expert forums and workshops. From these they gathered information which was used for improving the environmental education programmes, by transferring the latest knowledge gained in recent nature and environment studies to teachers and education specialists. As part of the project, exhibitions and study materials were produced and made available online as well as in printed form.
