The funding supports the area of the Danube river branches in the surroundings ofMosonmagyaróvár and Somorja. The areas on both sides of the border are natureconservation areas, therefore it was important to reconcile interests of natureprotection and local inhabitants. Water tourism by kayak and canoe is a traditional branchof sustainable tourism. Both the Felső-Szigetköz Leisure and Water Sports Association,and its Slovakian partner the Forum Centre participated in working out the feasibilitystudy of the Szigetköz-Csallóköz National Park in 2005 initiated by non-governmentalorganisations. This was complemented by two events, the Dunakiliti–Somorja CommonWater Festival and the „Delta without borders” Water Canoe Marathon.
