CLIL - verschränkter Sprachen- und Fachunterricht verstärken
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

At the Hertha Firnberg Schools of Business and Tourism, multilingualism is important for the students as well as for the teachers. As our students achieve a high level in language skills, it is important for our teachers to continuously upgrade and improve their own skills. As the USP of our school is CLIL, it is important for our teachers to be both trained in this area and that they are informed more on this still relatively new concept in teaching. The aim of this project was to allow our teachers, from various disciplines - economy, languages, and tourism - to broaden their knowledge, improve their professional, linguistic, intercultural and methodological skills and to get in contact with institutions with similar objectives. Seven teachers - four English, one French and three Economy and Tourism - attended language courses in English and French speaking countries. They improved their knowledge and skills in everyday and business language als well as in modern didactical methods of how to teach a foreign language. Finally, it was the goal to provide the teachers the opportunity to not only further and expand their own knowledge but to also later share the knowledge with the colleagues in the context of internal trainings in our school and by implementation in our school. By doing so, the project guarantees that all teachers of the school have the possibility to get in contact with new aspects and methods of education in a foreign language and consequently implement and improve them in their own lessons. As a result and long-term benefit, the project helps to improve education quality on the teachers' side and learning results and motivation on the pupils' side.
