Circus + Enhance Creativity
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Mar 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Circus + Enhance Creativity" is a seminar of best practice exchange carried out by Organization for Art and Culture from Romania and The Serious Road Trip - Connexion Humanitaire Besancon from France. We follow to increase the use of creative tools in the field of youth-work by empowering young youth workers in social intervention through circus and develop creative means of working with different target groups. To have a global view we follow also to facilitate the access to competences recognition in the field of non-formal education, in the European circus context. This initiative comes from specific needs that we have identify, as the lack of visibility for contemporary circus in eastern-European countries, that leads to prejudices towards the use of it as a non-formal education method, and so the poor access to professional development opportunities for youth workers in the field of circus as a method of non-formal education, as it is a relatively new approach of circus. We have supported non-formal circus in Romania for the last five years, and know that there is a demand of local circus projects, we have difficulties due to the lack of local human resources. The seminar will bring together 18 youth-workers aged between 20 and 35 years old, from the two partner organizations, that have already used circus as a non-formal education method, but even though they have good circus abilities, they are not aware of the entire learning process and have limited pedagogical tools as the educational opportunities in this sens are limited, especially for the Romanian youth-workers. The objectives of the seminar are: best practice exchange in circus pedagogy through the analysis of at least 15 implementation tools of circus as a non-formal education method; creating an ensemble show and present it for at least 300 persons in 3 representations, and analyzing this as a 'learning-by-doing' experience; identifying and applying three different self-assessment methods in order to issue the Youth-Pass certificate, suitable in circus projects. The last objective comes from the partners past experience where we have identify a need of suitable tools in completing the self-assessment for the Youth Pass Certificate, in mostly of the European circus projects. For eight days the participants will share knowledge and develop skills and attitudes through non-formal education methods such as group games, image theatre evaluation, open space, reflection sessions, "teaching creativity" method proposed by Phillipe Brasseur, creating an ensemble show, having responsibility for they're own learning process, all this in a dynamic "learning by doing" approach. This and much more that will born during the seminar will promote the use of circus as a non-formal education method and the recognition of the competences it develops. We plan to have at least 300 persons that see the ensemble show, two social institutions that will search to develop circus projects, more than 1000 people that will understand circus as a non-formal education method, 80% of the participants that will be able to initiate social circus projects and 100% Youth Pass certificates issued. All this will be used to lobby for support from the local authorities for the non-formal eduction methods and certification of competences gained in this way. Also, at European level we aim to support the certification through Youth Pass in circus projects, so we will create a brochure that will describe the Youth Pass certification experience from the seminar and propose three tools of self-assessment. We will disseminate this to all our partners together with the movie of the project, and hope to influence the increase with 30% of the certificates issued in the circus communities. This results (project movie, brochure, photo exhibition) will be presented at a dissemination event and press conference organized in Timisoara, and on a special blog dedicated to the project. Moreover, based on this experience we want to develop a strategic partnership with five European partners that follows the creation of a national certificate that recognizes the competences developed by circus as a non-formal education method.
