Newbridge is a town located in Co. Kildare, about 50km from Dublin. It has a population of about 20,000 and comes with a lively town centre with abundant shopping opportunities.
The Centre is based in a spacious building comprising 5 apartments for clients, as well as a roomy kitchen area and sitting room. During their stay, the volunteers live in the centre and have their own bedroom.
The volunteer can make use of all kitchen facilities and are free to organise their meals as they wish. It is possible but not mandatory for the volunteer to have their meals with the service users.
Laundry opportunity and shower facilities for the volunteers are provide. Most of our rooms have wireless internet access.
We provide high access accommodation for our clients while being part of a community but volunteers can enjoy their privacy if they feel they need it.
There are numerous opportunities for volunteers to take part in the local community and take part in social activities in and around Newbridge. This includes things such as night courses, gym membership, activities in the local parish etc.
Public transport to Dublin is available either by train or by bus. Buses and trains run on a very regular basis and take approx 1 hour.
Our service users benefit greatly by the presence of the volunteers. They bring their own talents and skills and have the time to have a one to one conversations with our service users. Volunteers allow our service users to integrate into the local community which would otherwise by impossible. They accompany service users shopping, bowling, going to the cinema, meeting family and friends and help they cook in their own home. Many of our past volunteers are still in contact with us and come back regularly to visit.
