The EVS project entitled 'Challenge' is born from the idea and the need observed: the youth of the 21st century is facing with lack of experience in different work fields, especially in non-formal context, that is through volunteering. The project aims at giving opportunity for such an experience in an intercultural and international frame. The project's objectives are: to increase the awareness of the importance of volunteering in social fields, to develop the ability of learning by doing, and learning non-formal educational methods, to develop key competences from the point of view of Youthpass Certificate as results of the learning process and to be able to use these competences in their own future life and career. The proejct will host 5 volunteers, two from Russian Federation, 2 from Hungary and 1 from Germany, who are aged 17-30 and come from different social background. Each of them wants to become experienced in the work field with children in a non-profit organisation, as they would like to work in this field in the future or at a social enterprise. FCD is regardless of nationality, sex, religion or political belief; the volunteers are expected to be motivated to assume activities with socially disabled children - Roma children or others who have learning difficulties and come from disfunctional families, to be open to learn about themselves and about Romania, about the cultures of other volunteers, to participate actively in the planned activities and to be able to work in team. The volunteers will carry out activities in children's social programmes: two of them will have their placement in Mera, and other three in Cluj Napoca. The progamme in Mera works with socially disabled children, mainly of Roma nationality. The volunteers will have non-formal educational activities like: teaching daily hygiene and manners at the table, doing homework together with the children, participate and lead creative activities, supervise and participate in outdoor and sports activities together with the pedagogue group leader, accompany the social worker to the family visits, mini-projects of the volunteers' idea. The after-school type of children's programme in Cluj Napoca includes activities in two schools N.Titulescu and O.Goga, where the 3 volunteers - the German, 1 Hungarian and 1 Russian - will perform non-formal educational activities: assisting and participating actively in doing homework with the children of primary school, prepare and participate in sports activities, creative activities, visits to the children's families. All the 5 volunteers will also carry out and participate in other interpersonal and intercultural activities like: team-building seminar for all the volunteers of FCD, intercultural evening, meetings with mentors, other volunteers from Cluj, events of Cluj Youth Capital, trips, EVS seminars, workshps that they prepare and lead for the group (documentary film club and discussions, gender equality, dissemination and promotion of project, video making, handcraft and other creative activity, etc.), evaluation sessions of the learning process with the mentors, trainers, programme coordinator. The methods used are non-formal in case of all activities: team work, learning by doing, briefing and debriefing, feedback, brainstorming, games, reflections in creative way. The following results are foreseen: the volunteers will be able to carry out projects on their own; new competences will be acquired in professional and social field; new methods of learning, evaluation will have developed; the spirit of entrepreneurship will be developed; communication skills have developed; the volunteers will become tutors or mentors for other EVS volunteers hosted in their home country; new projects and cooperation will be carried out with the promoters; the staff of FCD will have gained new intercultural competences; the children of the programmes will become EVS volunteers in the future.
