CHALLENGE LINGUISTIQUE AU SEIN DU LP CHATEAUBOEUF
Start date: Jun 1, 2015,
End date: May 31, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
Our vocational Highschool Châteauboeuf located in Fort de France in Martinique, has been involved since 2012 in a policy towards the international, as a result two 2012 Leonardo mobilities have already taken place (FPI and PROEFP) in March 2013 in Plymouth followed by a Leonardo mobility (FPI) which took place in March 2014 in Portsmouth(UK).
Our school has also just got on the 1st of November last year the Erasmus + ECHE for further education which will allow our BTEC National Higher Diploma students in aesthetics, cosmetics or perfumery to carry on mobilities abroad.
Two teachers of electronics and numerical system will be taking very soon the certification in foreign languagaes in English to give the school the possibility to access the European label and to open a Eurocaribbean section.
Vocational subject and mainstream teachers of the school other than electronics and numerical system are now attending a course, organized by the Local educational authority. Those teachers also plan to sit the certification in a near future.
Thanks to all those experiences and actions that have been going on for 3 years now, our school wishes to emphasize and develop furthermore its strategic development plan towards the international to :
-settle a future partnership of cooperation mainly with Plymouth City College which offers vocational sections just like ours, such as information technology, hairdressing, aecthetics cosmetics, to exchange on our teaching methods, and the know how and how to act as a professional.
-increase consistently the number of students going abroad, allowing them to improve their language skills, and their employment opportunities. Because of our insularity and the narrowness of our job market, the unemployment rate is very high, within the young people aged 25 or less, there will not be enough job for everybody. So with this new program the students can access the job market in Europe or in the Caribbean.
-to improve the language skills of the vocational subject teachers allowing them to taake the certification in languages so they can teach their subject in English for example.
-to open vocational classes to rise the level of the students in languages and to make sure that every student has the same opportunity in terms of languagae learning.
-to enhance the prestige of our school and its attractiveness towards the students in Martinique.
The language Challenge project described here beholds our development strategy towards the international and also takes into account the different issues we had to face when we did the first two mobility projects and that we mentioned previously. Indeed, because of the low level of English of the students (A1 instead of B1 demanded by the companies), some of the companies could not unforunately maintain the students in their internship, which brought some harm on a professional and educational level on one side. On the other side, that period of time abroad helped the students to move from level A1 to level A2 at the end, thanks to the organization of language courses which happened instead of the internship in companies.
From now on, to avoid these types of incidents ant to enable our participants who go for mobility projects to carry on their internship in companies in the best conditions, so that they can reach the professional standards described within the frame of reference of their initial course and part of their exam, I have decided with the help of the language coordinator, to organize a language Challenge within our school, which will at the end, allow us to select 15 A levels or NVQ level 1 students from all the different sections with an A2 or a B1 level.
Until now only tne students from the electronics and numerical system students had been involved in the mobility projects. Now , with this new project, all the students from all the diferent subjects of the school, hairdressing/esthetics/cosmetics/parfumery/ electronic system/sales will be involved and will be able to apply and paticipate in our language Challenge.
The Challenge is for the students to reach the required level and to go for mobility projects and to be part of the 15 candidates who will have the opportunity to perform a consistent internship abroad in companies in Portsmouth in March 2016 in their area of competences for five weeks, including hours of language courses and professional seminaries provided in a training center.
