Celebrating the Potential Project

The ‘Celebrating the Potential Project’ (CPP) involves bringing together EVS participants and young people at Depaul homeless accommodation services where they can learn and develop from mutually beneficial interactions and relationships. The project aims to increase both EVS participants’ and young people’s capacity to realise their potential through inter-cultural working. By supporting vulnerable young people in the context of the advanced yet challenging UK social care system, participants will experience:- enhanced employability skills for the social care sector and beyond- increased clarity around long-term goals for further education and employment- improved social and communication skills, including language competencies - enhanced intercultural awareness and identification with European values- increased confidence in their own abilities and propensity to achieveThrough the opportunity to interact with ambitious, hard-working and EVS participants, young people – who often experience low self-esteem and have aspirations that are hampered by their disadvantageous circumstances – will experience:- enhanced intercultural awareness and broadened horizons- increased aspirations for the future- increased motivation to make positive change, including participation in education, employment and volunteering As one of the key tasks for participants will be the arrangement and hosting of Depaul activities within the communities they work, young people will also become more engaged with their communities as a result of EVS paricipant's contribution.In this project we are working with our partner organisations in Finland, Portugal and Germany and will be welcoming 6 participants, 2 from each sending organisation. 3 participants will be at our North East projects, 3 at our London projects.The planned activities at each project include the following:- Assisting staff and volunteers with the Get up and Go Programme i.e. leading and planning workshops such as cooking, gardening, yoga and arts and crafts - they will lead groups of 3-5 people.- Promoting the Get Up & Go Programme to clients through a variety of ways.- Mentoring young people to reach their personal mobility goals as referenced throughout the application - Assisting staff with administrative duties to include updating client files , date input and risk assessments.- Shadowing support staff with client support sessions.- Developing and creating their own projects using the skills that they bring to Depaul. Participants who take part in the activities gain the following skills and experience:- enhanced employability skills for the social care sector and beyond- increased clarity around long-term goals for further education and employment- improved social and communication skills, including language competencies - enhanced inter cultural awareness and identification with European values- increased confidence in their own abilities and propensity to achieveWe will monitor the impact throughout the programme before finally publishing and disseminating the results in collaboration with our partners.
