On the Italian side, the project involves the Antrona and Bognanco Valleys, Domodossola and the Sacro Monte Calvario Special Reserve (part of the UNESCO heritage). On the Suisse side the Saas valley, Saas Almagell, Saas Grund, Saas Balen, Saas Fee "Vie delle cappelle – chapel path" (UNESCO heritage) are involved. The project’s purpose is to promote spiritual tourism as the means to help seasonal adjustment and to improve the areas’ attractiveness. This shall be obtained by offering hiking/pilgrimage itineraries in high mountain areas that will combine visits to spiritual/religious art sites with the opportunity of multicultural confrontation (through the meeting of different religions). All this will take place in a natural and extremely fascinating setting. This is a project aimed at the development of sustainable tourism based on rediscovering the existing heritage, creating social, as well as economic value.
